Hyphessobrycon eques. This is part of the group of tetras known as the "blood tetras," due to its color. This species, from Brazil and Paraguay, grows to only about 1.75 inches, is a peaceful and social fish, and is very easy to care for. Although it requires tankmates, avoid placing it with smaller fish as it may become slightly aggressive and nip, especially during feeding. Originating from the Amazon, it prefers dark waters—using a dark substrate in the tank can enhance its comfort.
